Nature Precedings

The Nature journal opened Nature Precedings (link), a service similar to arxiv.org, where scientists can submit pre-publication works. They “welcome high-quality contributions from biology, medicine (except clinical trials), chemistry and the earth sciences.” So now we (chemists) have a place to submit early drafts of our work. Papers are published under Creative Commons Attribution License. And just like in arxiv.org, submissions are not peer-reviewed but editors decide if they fulfilled some general criteria. The service was discussed even on Slashdot (link).

Fire and water

Recently I have seen nice simulations of fire and water dynamics – macroscopic once, unfortnatelly ;) (link). Interesting, how much of science must be incorporated in today’s games development. Few years ago, I had a nice discussion with a guy implementing artificial intelligence in games, and I was also impressed. Luckily, I am still able to win with old and good RedAlert in human with computer mode.

How not to…

I have found this presentation about how not to do presentations quite funny (link). Maybe you should also rethink your PowerPoints slide shows? Those of you who use LaTeX/Beamer are also not immune for some mistakes (I have seen some of them). And do not ask about my presentations – usually horrible.
